Overdoing It

this weekend i tried out a leg day routine that turned out to be more of upper body day disguised as a leg day. i’ll drop a screenshot of the routine from muscleandfitness.com below so you can see. essentially, i should’ve been wearing my gloves with wrist wraps, because when i was doing the front squats, an exercise i haven’t ever done with a barbell, i strained my wrist a little bit trying to lift too much. it wasn’t a lot of weight, and below the capacity of most of my body, but it was too much for my wrist, and we are only as strong as our weakest link. thankfully, the strain is very minor and already today, two days later, it’s feeling a lot better. but i did have to amend my arm and chest day routine to accommodate the tenderness in my wrist.

good news is, there are a lot of exercises you can do without putting too much pressure on your wrist - especially with good wrist wraps. instead of doing curls with dumbbells, i used a cable pull machine with a cloth strap wrapped around my forearm. and likewise instead of dumbbell flies, i used a short barbell. those are just a couple of examples.

the lesson learned is that i need to be more honest about where my body is at if i want to make gains without injuring myself. i got lucky this time. now it’s up to me to make sure i do everything i can to prevent the occurrence of a next time.
