The Long Game and the Fear of Falling Short

this week, setting up the parameters for the dailies and the weekly goal set has been all about the long game. working on my body so that i can live long and prosper (and hopefully age into a full-blown silver fox, if my hair ever turns). working on my photography so that maybe one day i can break the cycle of working for others and make a living traveling the world taking epic pictures of interesting people. working on my fiction so i can stretch my creativity and add another leg to my income octopus, bringing myself that much closer to autonomy.

today, i really would’ve loved to get this daily post out of the way earlier, but i worked the early shift (started at 6am) and worked from home. during my morning break, i took headshots for youtube personality and news anchor sarah taylor, and then i slaved away the afternoon pouring through court filings. once i was done working, it was straight into the workout, and then off to pick up groceries for the weekly meal prep tomorrow.

i still have to finish my fiction post for the day, and i now have three after-action reviews to write as my second photo post for the week—each with its own nuances that need to be laid out. this just goes to show that even the most conservative plan can easily go off the rails. stock henry and i spent a lot of time talking through dailies and planning this week, and what i’m realizing is how important contingency plans are to the process. more to come on that.

the truth is, i really want to back out of writing a fiction post tonight, but i have a deadline, and i would only be doing myself a disservice by missing it. and to miss it on the first week is just bad form. it sets a bad precedent. so i’m going to switch gears and get that post going.
