whether we like to admit it or not, none of us would set out on the creative path without a solid dose of ego. only a fool sets out on a journey . without that ego element, we would probably never get past go. because no matter what you’re doing, no matter how much innate talent you have when you start out, only experience can bring out your inner pro.
but ego can’t be the only driver. ego is how you start. but ego won’t sustain you. ego tells you you’re good enough to put yourself out there, and only through being out there can your own vision of yourself become the version of yourself that is seen by those around you. ego is the spark. the kindling. but it won’t keep your fire going through the night.
for that, you need something deeper. you need to learn how to put a halter on the ego, take charge of it. use it to get you to where you’re going rather than letting it take you where it pleases.
it’s funny, i started writing this post a couple of months ago, and never finished. then, today i was running through my old content and realized that it was sitting in the box. i added a “daily” tag to it and then accidentally hit “save and publish.” so now i’m finishing the post. my ego tells me i should be embarrassed by the misstep, at the accidental posting of a half-finished blog that ends with an incomplete sentence. the blog equivalent of the covfefe tweet. but i’m glad this is going out. i was saving it, planning to get back to it. but there’s nothing else to say here.
bottom line: ego opens doors, but it’s up to you to make sure that something with more substance takes control when you enter the room.
